The automobile has an IC engine (1) providing the propulsion drive and a fuel cell system (2) coupled to an electric storage battery (6), supplying the onboard electrical systems, with a coupling between the energy and/or medium flows of the IC engine and the fuel cell system. The IC engine (1) and the fuel cell system (2) are coupled to a common cooling circuit which is thermally coupled to the body of the vehicle, the gas generation system (4) of the fuel cell system thermally coupled with the exhaust tract of the IC engine, e.g. the catalyser (11) for the IC engine exhaust gases.
