APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING OPERATION OF REFRIGERATOR ADOPTING RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling an operation of a refrigerator adopting a reciprocating compressor are provided to cut off power supply applied to an inner motor or apply the power supply to the inner motor by turning on and off a current restraining element used instead of an OLP, thereby preventing damage of a compressor. CONSTITUTION: A current restraining element(Tr1) is installed at the front end of a compressor(COMP) instead of an OLP(Over Load Protector) to control an amount of a current applied to the compressor. A driving unit(100) is installed to slowly increase a stroke in initial starting while removing a PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficient) for protecting the compressor. According to the detected stroke, the current restraining element is turned on and off periodically to change the stroke. A voltage detector(101) detects a voltage applied to the compressor. A current detector(102) detects the current applied to the compressor. A stroke estimator(103) estimates the stroke by using the voltage, the current, and a motor constant. A control unit(104) compares the stroke estimation value with a stroke reference value to apply a control signal to the current restraining element for changing the stroke accordingly.
