METHOD FOR PREPARING ANTHRAQUINONE FROM ANTHRACENE AT LOW COST WITH HIGH YIELD

PURPOSE: Provided is an environmental-friendly method for preparing anthraquinone from anthracene at a low cost with high yield. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing anthraquinone by catalytic oxidation of anthracene comprises the steps of: treating anthracene by contacting it with oxygen and light in a liquid phase in the medium of carboxylic acid, in the presence of an organic metal salt and an activating agent for the metal salt, at a temperature of about 40 deg.C or higher; and separating the resultant reaction product from the reaction mixture. The method may further comprises a step for treating the reaction mixture with hydrogen peroxide before separating the reaction mixture.
