PURPOSE: A display device and a controlling method thereof are provided to inform a user of a time that the user performs the management for turning off power and protect eyesight. CONSTITUTION: An approach sensor(11) detects the approach of a human body to a display part(21). An alarm generator(25) gives an alarm. A controller(27) controls the alarm generator when the human body approaches the human body in a predetermined approach distance based on a detection signal from the approach sensor. If a predetermined cut-off time is passed after generating the alarm, the controller controls one of a video processor(22) or a power supply(23) in order to interrupt the display on a display part, and makes the time progress until the cut-off time displayed through the display part.
