PURPOSE: An image forming system and method are provided to write images on a rewritable recording medium under the optimal image recording condition and maintain high picture quality. CONSTITUTION: An image forming system includes a writing unit(14) for writing an image on a rewritable recording medium, a controller(12) for controlling the writing unit to write a test image on the recording medium, a detector(18) for detecting the test image written on the recording medium, and a determination unit for determining whether the detected result is in an allowable range. Based on the determination result, an optimal image writing condition is decided. Accordingly, high picture quality is maintained even when images are repeatedly written on the image recording medium.
