The procedure consists of placing the tray (11) containing the impression (10), both of which have been disinfected, inside a supple polymer sachet with walls a few tens of microns thick, which is evacuated, filled with a gas and sealed before placing it in a protective container (1, 20). The container, made from a thermoformed synthetic material, comprises two shells that fasten together by means of interlocking projections and recesses to form a box and a lid, with a gap between them for the projecting handle (13) of the tray and a central boss (18) that fits in the tray's cavity.
