A pneumatic servo-operated hydraulic brake system of the kind comprising a master cylinder 16 normally servo-operated by atmospheric pressure acting against vacuum on a piston 14 of a servo-cylinder 12 connected to the air intake manifold 24, is operated by a pedal 36 from a position as shown in Fig. 2, through a link 42 and lever 32. In the event of the vacuum servo-pressure source failing, a fluid pressure capsule 71, as shown in Fig. 6, connected by pipe 73 to the branch piece 22 and vacuum reservoir 27 is expanded by spring 77 so that the toggle linkage 52, 53 is straightened to the position shown in Fig. 3 and the pedal 37 is raised, thus allowing greater travel before bottoming, the lever 32 being operated at an increased leverage ratio. |
