PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical head small in size and capable of effectively reducing the temperature rise of a semiconductor laser due to the heat generation of a laser driving IC. SOLUTION: The optical head is constituted to include a laser light source, an optical system including an objective lens for condensing the laser beam emitted from the laser light source, the laser driving IC for driving the laser light source, a circuit board mounted with the laser driving IC, a heat sink for radiating the heat of the driving IC, and a case for holding these. The driving IC and the circuit board are arranged in the positions where both overlap flatly on the laser beam and do not shield the incident laser beam on the objective lens. The heat sink is provided with an IC junction joined through a thermally conductive material or directly to the driving IC, a heat radiation main body and a coupling for coupling the IC junction and the heat radiation main body. The heat radiation main body is arranged on the side opposite to the circuit board with the laser beam held in-between. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
