Process for stabilizing disused mining shafts filled with filling material comprises introducing a bore from above into the filling material column (4) and inserting a radially expandable packer arrangement (7) into the bore. The packer arrangement is filled under high pressure with a binding material so that the filling material column is radially sealed in the length region of the packer arrangement and is placed under increased radial compressive strain.
