PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environment for precisely inspecting position deviations in the directions of main and sub scannings simultaneously, and especially inspecting the position deviation in the direction of the sub scanning without being affected by an image inputting apparatus.

SOLUTION: An image position deviation measuring instrument having an image inputting means for imaging an arbitrary subject two-dimensionally comprises an image storage means for storing image signals acquired from the image inputting means; an image signal computing means for acquiring image signals from the image storage means for computing; an image position deviation calculation means for calculating the position deviation of images to the image signal obtained by setting output images being outputted from the image outputting apparatus to the image inputting means; a means for acquiring the amount of position deviation of a reference pattern; and an image position deviation correction means for correcting the input error of the image inputting means. By measuring the position deviation of the output image of the image outputting apparatus to be inspected, a read error is calculated by the simultaneously measured reference pattern, and position deviation is corrected, thus performing precise judgement of conforming or nonconforming articles by a standard value.
