FUSION SPLICING METHOD OF PHOTONIC CRYSTAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for fusion splicing of photonic crystal fibers to each other or the photonic crystal fiber and the conventional optical fiber with low loss and high reliability. SOLUTION: In the fusion splicing method of heating, fusing and connecting the photonic crystal fibers provided with many holes near the central parts of the optical fibers by an electric discharge, the product of the time for discharge fusion and the discharge current in fusing is set to 3.0 to 6.5mAs for the photonic crystal fiber of an external diameter 125μm and to 3.0 to 8.0mAs for the photonic crystal fiber of an external diameter 180μm.
