PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new production technique of a pigment for a coated paper, having a high whiteness and a low wearing degree, and stably possessing the properties by using a burned ash of waste water sludge of the coated paper which has been discarded as a waste; and to provide a coated paper obtained by coating the coating composition containing the pigment, and having high whiteness, opacity, glossiness and surface strength. SOLUTION: Two or more specific coagulants are added to the waste water one by one, and the formed coagulated product is granulated, or granulated and concentrated by a granulating vessel having a stirring blade with 20-50m/min peripheral speed while regulating the retention time of the solid component so as to be≥6min. The resultant sludge is molded into a specific shape by a molding machine, and the molded product is continuously dried, carbonized and fired in order in one rotary kiln to provide a burned ash. The burned ash is pulverized to provide particles having a specified average particle diameter, and coarse particles are removed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
