PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce skew generated when feeding a recording sheet of small paper width in an automatic sheet feeder ready for a recording paper of any paper width by one paper feed roller. SOLUTION: A paper guide lever 3 is pivotably supported in a rocking manner with a shaft 31 as a rocking shaft. A first cam 572 is engaged with a first cam follower 34 formed on the outer side of the paper guide lever 3, and a second cam 573 is engaged with a second cam follower 33 formed on the inner side of the paper guide lever 3. The second cam 573 rocks the paper guide lever 3 to the position at which the paper guide lever 3 does not interfere the paper returning motion of a paper return lever 59 when the rotational position of a paper feed roller 57 is at the reset position. During the paper feed operation, the first cam 572 is abutted on the first cam follower 34 to regulate the rocking position of the paper guide lever 3 so that the interval of a paper feed pathway by an engagement surface 32 of the paper guide lever 3 is maintained to a predetermined value.
