PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precursor capable of easily providing a polyimide without being gelatinized during synthesis even if a tetramine of a tetraphenylmethane derivative is used as a monomer; to provide a new polyimide having a three-dimensional structure by using a solution of the precursor; and to provide the thin film. SOLUTION: The polyimide is represented by formula (1) (wherein, X is a 1-20C tetravalent organic group; and n is an integer of 1-3), and the polyimide is formed into the thin film. The new polyimide and the thin film have excellent mechanical strength and heat resistance because of having rigid three-dimensional structure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
