PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method of filling a cushioning material into a container for folding the sheetlike cushioning material so that its corners do not stick out and filling it into the container. SOLUTION: The sheetlike cushioning material 10 is pushed by a first inserting member 4 to the intersection between a first filling tube 1 and a second filling tube 3 to be folded into an approximately half length of the lengthwise size. Then, the material 10 is pushed by a second inserting member 5 to the intersection between the second filling tube 2 and a third filling tube 3, to be further folded into approximately two thirds of its length. Thereafter, the cushioning material 10 is pushed by a third inserting member 6 toward the other end of the third filling tube 3, to be further folded into its approximately half length, and filled from the other end of the third filling tube 3 into the container 11.
