PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling arc welding which realizes homogeneous welding quality in all regions by sufficient heat input to a base metal in a welding toe part and the prevention of excessive heat input to the base metal in a welding termination part at the time when lap fillet welding is performed using a consumable electrode. SOLUTION: An initial current IB having a current value larger than that of a stationary current IO is made to flow by the start of welding, and simultaneously, a welding torch starts to move. Till the torch moves to a welding position X1, the initial current IB is retained, and rapid heat input to a base metal 100 is performed. Thereafter, the welding current I reduces at a fixed ratio so as to be the stationary current IO. Upon the end of the welding, the welding current I reduces at a fixed ratio from a welding position X3, a termination current IE is retained from a welding position X4, and the heat input to the base metal 100 progresses in a state of being short compared with the stationary state. The shortage in the penetration of the base metal 100 at the initial stage of the welding can be prevented, and the burnt through of the base metal 100 and crater at the terminal stage of the welding can be prevented, so that homogeneous welding quality can be secured in all regions of the lap fillet welding.
