The drive system has a front axle differential (13) coupled to a left and a right drive shaft (17,22), which extend forward along the engine (1) in longitudinal vehicle direction. The shafts supply left resp. right front wheel torque to the front wheels (14,15) via two right-angle gear drives (18,23). The system also has second left and right drive shafts (19,24) extending at right angles to the longitudinal axis, from the left right-angle gear drive to the left front wheel, resp. from the right drive to the right front wheel. The engine projects downwards within an area located below the two second drive shafts. A rear axle differential (6) is located in the area of the rear axle.
