PURPOSE: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method for manufacturing the LCD are provided to reduce the manufacturing cost by using a sealant made of inorganic material. CONSTITUTION: An LCD includes the first and second substrates(103,105) including a pixel region and a sealing region, a liquid crystal layer(117) formed between the first and second substrates, a thin film transistor formed in the pixel area of the first substrate, a color filter layer(142) formed in the pixel region of the second substrate, and a liquid ceramic layer(107) formed on the sealing region of the first and second substrates to attach the first and second substrates to each other. The liquid ceramic layer is made of silicon oxide, water and alcohol. The LCD further includes a pattern for compensating a step height generated due to patterns in the pixel region. The step height compensating pattern is formed of a semiconductor or a metal.
