PURPOSE: A control system of side guides is provided to prevent locking, jamming and leaning of strip by measuring shape of the strip before the strip is advanced into finishing mill, thereby properly resetting width position of the side guides according to actual width of the strip and horizontal leaning of the strip on transfer table. CONSTITUTION: The control system comprises position detectors(6a,6b) for respectively detecting current position values of left and right side guides; a strip data setting part(48) for setting marginal adjusting value (m) of the left and right side guides; a guide input side strip advance detecting part(8) for detecting if strip is arrived in the input side of the side guides; a strip imaging part arranged at a central part of transfer table(1) to image shape of the strip being transferred; an actual strip width calculation part(43) for respectively calculating actual width (Wt) of the strip and lengths (Wa,Wb) of left and right strips around the central line of the imaged screen based on the imaged shape; a strip left right deviation calculation part(45) for defining difference values between a half of the total width (Wt) of the strip and left and right widths (Wa,Wb) of the strip as left and right deviations (Pa,Pb) of the strip; a transfer state judging part(47) for judging that the strip is in the leaning state if the left and right deviations (Pa,Pb) of the strip exceed a certain allowable deviation limit; a control signal generating part(49) for producing first control signal if advance signal is received from the guide input side strip advance detecting part, and transfer state judging part judges that the strip is in the leaning state; a position moving control part(50) for producing position moving signal for changing position of left and right side guide straight line parts until the current position values of the both side guide straight line parts detected in the position detectors respectively correspond to the sum (Wa+m,Wb+m) of left and right widths of the strip and the marginal adjusting value of the strip data setting part if first control signal is produced in the control signal generating part; and an electromotor driving part for respectively moving the position of the left and right side guide straight line parts according to the position moving signal.
