PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method of forming a coating film having a heat shielding function without heat absorption and pitch blackness which reflects the function and cost, to provide an article coated with a multilayer coating film having a coating film structure obtained by the formation method of the coating film. SOLUTION: The formation method of the coating film having the heat shielding function includes the following processes 1∼5. The process 1 is a process of forming a heat-cured or heat-uncured coating film by applying a heat shielding coating material (I) containing a compound which does not absorb infrared rays and having the heat shielding function. The process 2 is a process of forming a coating film by applying a black base coating material (A) containing perylene black pigment and/or azomethine pigment, and/or azo dye. The process 3 is a process of forming a coating film by applying a color clear coating material (B) containing a black dye on the heat-cured or heat-uncured coating film of the black base coating material (A). The process 4 is a process of forming a coating film by further applying a clear coating material (C). The process 5 is a process of thermally curing a laminate coating film having the films of the heat shielding coating material (I), the black base coating material (A), the color clear coating material (B), and the clear coating material (C) stacked one after.
