PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine capable of color communication can inform a transmitter about the presence/absence of the color reception function on the basis of a mounted state of an option memory. SOLUTION: The facsimile machine capable of color communication includes: a means for detecting the mounted option memory; and a means whereby a receiver informs a transmitter about the presence/absence of a color receiving function and revises the presence/absence of the color receiving function about which the receiver informs the transmitter depending on the presence/absence of the mounted option memory. In another embodiment, the facsimile machine includes a means of detecting an available memory capacity, which revises the presence/absence of the color receiving function about which the receiver informs the transmitter.
