PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval device by which a user can adequately verify whether the result of information retrieval is right. SOLUTION: The information retrieval device outputs an answer in response to a question sentence inputted, and retrieves at least one document corresponding to the question sentence from a plurality of documents preliminarily stored, and then selects at least one answer from the documents thus retrieved. Then, the information retrieval device determines the relation between the question sentence and each of the documents, at least one document, used for selecting the answer among the documents thus retrieved, and outputs at least one document having very close relation together with the answer concerned.
