PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an angle detection device for automatically and accurately detecting a relative inclination angle between a screen and a projector for correcting a trapezoidal strain, which occurs on an image on the screen, when the projection light axis of the projector is not perpendicular to the plane of the screen. SOLUTION: The angle detection device comprises a distance measuring section (3) for measuring distances to a plurality of different positions (1A to 1G) on a straight line extending on a planar matter (1) which is an object of measurement, representative value calculating sections (502 and 208) for spatially grouping a plurality of measuring positions into a plurality of neighboring small groups and calculating the representative values of the distances, which are the result of the measurement of the distances measured by the distance measuring sections in the small groups and inclination angle calculating sections (53 and 110) for calculating the inclination angles between the distance measuring sections and the object of the measurement on the plane perpendicular to the object of measurement, including the straight line on the basis of the representative values of the distances.
