PURPOSE: A system for measuring thickness of coil is provided to judge whether coil that is produced is defective or not by measuring thickness of the coil using laser at the same time when the coil is produced. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a reel action signal part(30) for outputting reel start signal when rotation of reel is started by sensing action of the reel and outputting reel stop signal when rotation of the reel is stopped; an operation terminal(40) comprising a displayer for outputting thickness of defective coil generated initially when strip is started to be coiled on the reel and outputting allowable strip thickness deviation value considering an error that can be generated in facility so that operator can check signals with the naked eye; a proximity sensor(7) installed on rotation shaft of the reel to output pulse signal according to the number of rotations of the reel; a distance measuring instrument(10) installed on a straight line with central point of the coil with being perpendicularly to tangent line of the coil to measure a distance from the distance measuring instrument to the surface of the coil; a distance calculator(21) for calculating coiling thickness of the coil except the defective coil thickness inputted from the operation terminal by receiving measured distance values of the distance measuring instrument if reel start signal is generated in the reel action signal part; a rotation number calculator(22) for counting pulse signal generated in the proximity sensor if reel start signal is generated in the reel action signal part, and calculating the number of rotations of the reel by stopping count if reel stop signal is generated in the reel action signal part; an average thickness calculator(23) connected to the distance calculator and the rotation number calculator to calculate average thickness of the strip by receiving coiling thickness and number of rotations of the coil from the distance calculator and the rotation number calculator respectively; and a defection decider(24) connected to the operation terminal to output warning signal to the operation terminal if average thickness values of the strip inputted from the average thickness calculator are deviated from an allowable deviation value of the operation terminal.
