<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing cyclopentenones from dicarboxylic acids. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention provides a process for preparing 2-cyclopentenones of general formula 1 [in the formula R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>are each H, an alkyl, an alkenyl, a cycloalkyl, a cycloalkenyl, an aralkylene or an aryl group], by converting hexenedioic acids and/or their esters (for example, 3-hexene-1, 6-dioic acid) at temperatures of from 150 to 450°C., over solid oxide catalysts, wherein the catalysts on an oxide carrier material comprise from 0.01 to 5% by weight of at least one alkali metal oxide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
