PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer apparatus for reducing a delay with respect to transfer while reducing a packet loss.

SOLUTION: The data transfer apparatus 1 includes: a means for storing a data packet received from an input port to an input buffer corresponding to the input port; a means for searching a path for the data packet; a means for storing the data packet to an output buffer corresponding to an output port acting like a path for the data packet; and a means for transmitting the data packet from the output buffer via the output port. Then the data transfer apparatus decides a retention time of a packet stored in the input buffer depending on the amount of the packet stored in the output buffer corresponding to the path of the data packet. Thus, it is avoided that the output buffer collectively receives packets from a plurality of the input buffers.
