PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber causing no protruding or recess in a region where B2O3is added in the connection end of the optical fiber even when the optical fiber having the region with addition of B2O3is used in a hot humid environment, and to provide optical components with optical fibers. SOLUTION: The optical fiber has a region where B2O3is added, and at least one connection end face 1a is coated with a layer 10 shielding against water.
