<PICT:1114593/C4-C5/1> A multi-choice question and answer machine (see Division G5) includes a device for displaying a student's answer to a question, the device comprising an electroluminescent panel. As illustrated the panel 72 is advanced by a rack-and-pinion transmission 79 each time the student causes one of the characters of his answer to be recorded in an answer store (Mr) (not shown). A coding device 71 indicates the angular position of a character wheel 47, and upon receiving a pulse b the coded angular position is transmitted to comparator C where it is compared with a signal from the answer store. Upon there being co-incidence a pulse energizes a flash bulb which illuminates a character and projects it on to the panel. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 16, not shown), a luminous chart including characters from which an answer may be compiled is projected on to a screen, and a student indicates the characters of his answer by placing over the relevant characters a bunch of optical fibres which transmit the luminous images to an electroluminescent panel. |
