<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly clone a new DNA containing a region encoding a protein from a cDNA library derived from the human adult whole brain and human fetal whole brain, determine the base sequence and identify the functions of the sequences. <P>SOLUTION: The DNA contains a base sequence encoding the polypeptide of the following (a) or (b): (a) a polypeptide having the same or substantially the same amino acid sequence as a specific amino acid sequence derived from human brain; and (b) a polypeptide having a specific amino acid sequence of the human brain provided that a part of the amino acids are deleted, substituted or added and having substantially the same biological activities as the functions of the polypeptide (a).
