<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective display device which attains a high luminance in both of a transmissive display and a reflective display, is high in precision and low in cost. <P>SOLUTION: The display device comprises a light controlling layer formed between a pair of substrates. Each pixel 8 constituting the display screen has a reflective region and a transmissive region. In the reflective region, three subpixels 8R, 8G, 8B equipped with reflection layers and coloring layers are formed. The transmissive region is constructed so as to make transmitted light of back-lighting pass through the region. The back-lighting 12 which is able to choose wavelength regions of the transmitted light sequentially and alternately is disposed on the rear face of the substrate. The reflective region realizes the reflective display by using external light and the transmissive region realizes the transmissive display by using the transmitted light of the back-lighting 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
