Electrolytic manufacture of an inorganic peroxygen compound involves anodically oxidizing an inorganic halogen compound in an aqueous solution with an oxidation state of the halogen of -1 to +5 or an inorganic manganese compound with an oxidation state of manganese of +5 to +6 in an electrolysis cell. The cell anode has a diamond coating with a dopant chosen from a trivalent, pentavalent or hexavalent element. Electrolytic manufacture of an inorganic peroxygen compound, e.g. perhalogen acids, perhalides or permanganates, involves anodically oxidizing an inorganic halogen compound in an aqueous solution with an oxidation state of the halogen of -1 to +5 or an inorganic manganese compound with an oxidation state of manganese of +5 to +6 in an electrolysis cell containing an anode, cathode and electrolyte chamber. The anode is an electrode with a diamond coating with a dopant made from a trivalent, pentavalent or hexavalent element.
