The method has distributed clients (CSA,CSB,CSC,C1,C2,C3,CL) within several subnetworks (SNA,..SND) assigned to a server (SRV) by selecting one client within each subnetwork which is used for linking other clients in the subnetwork with a server, the server address information (SA) for the located server being transferred from the selected client to the other clients in the subnetwork. An Independent claim for a client for coupling with a server is also included.
