PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning method of a liquid ejector in which occurrence of troubles is retarded by reducing the quantity of ink being deposited at a flushing liquid receiving section, and to provide a liquid ejector. SOLUTION: A printer 10 comprises a carriage 20 mounting a recording head 22 for ejecting ink, and a waste liquid tank 35. The waste liquid tank 35 is provided with a flushing liquid receiving section 37 being ejected with ink, and an absorbing member 36 disposed contiguously thereto. The printer 10 is provided, at one end part thereof, with a cap 31 and a suction pump 32 connected through a discharge pipe 33. The suction pump 32 is connected with one end part of a supply pipe 34 having the other end part located at the flushing liquid receiving section 37. When the suction pump 32 is driven, ink discharged forcibly from a recording head 22 is fed through the supply pipe 34 to the flushing liquid receiving section 37 before being absorbed by the absorbing member 36.
