PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inspecting the number of times of the printing of a random character string or the like comprising the characters of the alphabet, figures or the like by an ink jet printer. SOLUTION: The method for inspecting the number of times of ink jet printing is adapted to a continuous medium printing apparatus equipped with the ink jet printer for printing the printing image of the random character string or the like comprising the characters of the alphabet, figures or the like simultaneously with the formation of a printing image on a continuous medium. In this inspection method, a detection means, which detects the rotation signal outputted corresponding to the rotation of the printing cylinder in the printing apparatus, and a printing command means, which forms a printing starting position signal and a printing completion signal both of which are outputted to the ink jet printer on the basis of the rotation signal of the printing cylinder, are provided and the presence of abnormal printing is judged by collating the rotation signal of the printing cylinder with the printing completion signal.
