A collection pipe (4) has a sealable outlet (8, 9) in its downstream end region (6). A coolant/lubricant buffer vessel (11) connected to the upstream end region (7) of the collection pipe is used to add medium to the pipe whilst the outlet at its downstream end is closed. The recirculation device is connected to more than one machine tool (1) and includes a number of pumps (2), at least one of which removes coolant/lubricant from a machine tool. The pumps have sealable connecting pipes (3) leading into a collection pipe.
