SOIL MODIFIER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil modifier which decreases nitrate nitrogen in the soil highly selectively at a low cost. SOLUTION: The soil modifier comprises as an effective ingredient a biodegradable resin, and causes a denitrifying reaction by a denitrifying bacterium in the soil to decrease a nitrate nitrogen concentration in the soil. The denitrifying reaction proceeds under an anaerobic condition. The soil modifier comprises a pH adjusting agent containing a calcium compound. The biodegradable resin has a decomposition ratio of 60-100% under an aerobic condition and 60-100% under an anaerobic condition. The soil modifier is granular or film-shaped.
