PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus that confirms in advance the reception capability of a mating apparatus in the case of transmitting image data by means of an electronic mail so as to allow the mating apparatus to excellently receive the image data. SOLUTION: When the communication apparatus transmits the electronic mail having an attached image data file to the mating apparatus, the communication apparatus utilizes an MDN function to transmit a capability notice request mail to the inquire of the mating apparatus as to a file form and a compression form receptible by the mating apparatus. After receiving a reply of the capability notice mail from the mating apparatus, the communication apparatus converts the file form and the compression form of the image data corresponding to the capability of the mating apparatus and thereafter transmits the electronic mail to the mating apparatus.
