The fuel cell system uses a number of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell stacks which are operated at different temperatures, the cathode gases initially supplied to one or more fuel cell stacks (A1,A2) with a lower operating temperature before being supplied to one or more fuel cell stacks (B) with a higher operating temperature.
