A turbo drive unit comprises a combustion engine (3), crankshaft (4), exhaust gas tube (27) and turbine (2) following the engine. The turbine and crankshaft are not mechanically coupled but are connected through an electrical drive (5). An independent claim is also included for a process using the unit above.
