<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ink jet recording paper which is reduced in ink bleeding of printed characters and high in image density. <P>SOLUTION: In the production method, the ink jet recording paper has, on a support, at least a first pigment receiving layer and a second pigment receiving layer adjacent to the first pigment accepting layer, in this order, in which the first pigment accepting layer contains a synthetic amorphous silica having a number average particle size of 1 to 5 μm and the second pigment accepting layer contains a synthetic amorphous silica having a number average particle size of 6 to 15 μm.
