<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine capable of maintaining the regeneration function of a filter for collecting particulates contained in exhaust emission from the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust purification device 1 has a front oxidation catalyst 7 placed on an exhaust path 3 at the position closer to an engine 2 than to an oxidation catalyst 5, a bypass path 8 communicating the exhaust path 3 upstream with downstream of the front oxidation catalyst 7, and a flow path switching device 9 for switching the exhaust path 3 between the front oxidation catalyst 7 side and the bypass path 8 side. For the forcing regeneration of a filter 4, the device 1 switches the exhaust path 3, raises the temperature of exhaust emission E, and make the exhaust emission E flow into the oxidation catalyst 5 and the filter 4 through the front oxidation catalyst 7. After activating the oxidation catalyst 5, the device 1 switches the exhaust path 3 from the front oxidation catalyst 7 side to the bypath path 8 side with the flow path switching device 9 to supply unburned fuel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
