<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new onium salt suitably usable as a nonaqueous electrolyte in an electrochemical device and having high electrochemical oxidation resistance and (ionic) conductivity. <P>SOLUTION: The onium salt is represented by general formula (I) (CN)<SB>a</SB>X<SB>4-a</SB>B<SP>-</SP>-Z<SP>+</SP>(I) (wherein, Xs are each a halogen atom; a is an integer of 1-3; Z<SP>+</SP>is an organic onium cation; and Xs may mutually be different when a is ≤2).
