<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of printing even a manuscript mixed with characters and photographs without deteriorating the printing quality. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus 1 conducts image processing, to convert image data read by an image input device 2 into data of higher resolution and output by an image output device 3, when the printing resolution of the image output device 3 is higher than the reading resolution of the image input device 2. The image processing apparatus 1 employs a configuration, by which image area separation processing for distinguishing between characters and photographs is conducted, and resolution of a character area is arranged at a level higher than the one of a photograph area within the identical manuscript, while the number of pixels is made uniform for an output image as a whole after binaryization of each area, if characters and photographs intermingle within the manuscript. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
