PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-quality image formation apparatus which is inexpensive and has a high precision in the image registration position of each color while the number of BD sensors is reduced. SOLUTION: The image formation apparatus has a video controller 203 for bit map developing image information and outputting a video signal for image formation from bit map data, an image formation engine controller 204, a laser beam generating optical system, and an electrostatic latent image formation photoreceptor. The image registration position is detected by reading a test pattern image on the photoreceptor. The optical system includes two laser beam generating beams, one rotating polygon mirror 103, a laser beam detecting means for generating a horizontal synchronizing signal to be a write timing reference in a main scanning direction of a first laser beam, and a rotation position detecting means for detecting a rotation position of the rotating polygon mirror 103. An image write timing of a second laser beam is determined from the horizontal synchronizing signal of the first laser beam, the rotation position of the rotating polygon mirror 103, and the detected result of the image registration position of the second laser beam for each plane of the rotating polygon mirror 103.
