PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device whose electric discharges along spacers are suppressed and whose atmospheric pressure-proof strength is improved, and also to provide a manufacturing method for a spacer assembly which is used for the picture display device. SOLUTION: The picture display device is equipped with the first base plate 10 having a phosphor screen, and the second base plate which is disposed in face to face with the first base plate with a gap and on which a plurality of electron sources 18 are arranged. A spacer assembly 22 which supports the atmospheric pressure loading that acts on the first and the second base plates is equipped between these base plates. The spacer assembly has a plate shape grid, a plurality of the first spacers 30a which are built on the first surface of the grid, and a plurality of the second spacers 30b which are built on the second surface of the grid. First base plate side and second base plate side tip surfaces of the first and the second spacers are polished in a planar shape. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
