The contraction device for use with shredders and cutters has an include chute plate (13) running in the direction of the cutter rollers. The distance between the chute plate and the underneath of the supply roller can be changed. The supply roller shaft has a co-rotating cam plate (11) whose outer contour rolls over a roller (12) mounted underneath and fixed rotatable on the housing. A compactor can be used in place of a shredder.
