The stroke function setting device has a pivot lever (8), pivoted about a fixed axis (6), provided with a stop element (21) spaced from this axis and a reciprocating operating element for the pivot lever, operated by the rotation of the IC engine. An intermediate lever (26), pivoted to the pivot lever, carries a valve lever (40) for operation of the engine valve having a stop surface (44) cooperating with the stop element, a locking device (14,16) selectively securing it to the pivot lever or the valve lever, for providing 2 different valve stroke functions.
