PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an urethane-based modifier for cellulose esters not causing lowering of transparency and cloudiness by compounding with the cellulose ester and to provide a method for producing the modifier and further to provide a cellulose ester composition modified with the modifier and a transparent film. SOLUTION: The modifier for cellulose esters is mainly composed of a polyurethane obtained by reacting a polyester polyol obtained from ethylene glycol, 1,4-butylene glycol and succinic acid or succinic anhydride with a polyvalent isocyanate.
