1,049,924. Change Speed and clutch control. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Jan. 15, 1964 [Jan. 30, 1963], No. 1876/64. Headings F2D and F2L. In a combined clutch, gear shift and throttle control for a motor vehicle wherein initial shift movement effected manually or by an output speed responsive control 27 changes a double switch 30, 31 to disengage an electromagnetically operated main clutch 8, 9 and to energize a throttle closing solenoid 47, the throttle 6 is reopened during down-shift when the following three conditions are fulfilled: (1) a ratio establishing clutch sleeve 20 is applied against a friction synchronizing ring 17 with a predetermined force, (2) the main clutch driven element 9 overruns the driving element 8 and (3) the throttle pedal 38 is depressed. The ratio shift control 27 operates a rod 26 which acts through a spring centred lost motion coupling 25 on a shift fork 21 so that when the rod 26 has completed its movement and closed a switch 28 the shift fork 21 and clutch sleeve 20 are biased towards the new ratio position by a predetermined force. The throttle 6 is reopened by energizing a solenoid 33 through a switch 34 closed when the accelerator pedal 38 is depressed, the switch 28 and a switch 37, 41 closed when the clutch driven element 9 overruns the driving element 8. The solenoid 33 opens a switch 36 to de-energize the throttle closing solenoid 47. Establishiment of a new ratio changes the switches 30, 31 to re-engage the clutch 8, 9 and de-energize the throttle control solenoid 47. During re-acceleration the clutch 8, 9 may be partially engaged by supplying a reduced current to its winding 7 through a resistor 50 and a switch 49 operated conjointly with the switch 28. The throttle valve 6 is independent of the main pedal controlled throttle valve 4 and only partially closes the duct 3. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the above device is applied to the clutch control circuit described in Specification 1,028,964. |
