PROCESS FOR MICROCHANNEL PRODUCTION OF COLORED SPHERICAL GRAIN AND MICROCHANNEL PRODUCTION APPARATUS FOR USE THEREIN

Two-toned monodisperse colored spherical grains useful in, for example, display units such as character, graphic and image displays, especially bichrome spherical grains wherein from the viewpoint of display performance, two hues permit electrically or magnetically reversing display; and a novel process and apparatus for producing the same. In particular, a process for microchannel production, comprising providing colorant continuous phases of different hues (6a, 6b) and spherical granulation dispersion phase (7) which are in O/W or W/O relationship to each other; and in a fluid dispersion medium containing a polymerizable resin component, transferring the colorant continuous phases of different hues (6a, 6b) prepared by dispersing colorant dyes or pigments into first microchannel (1) and continuously or intermittently discharging the same into the spherical granulation dispersion phase (7) flowing at given flow rate (F2, ml/h) through second microchannel (2) so that the polymerizable resin component within the colorant continuous phases of two hues rendered spherical is hardened to thereby form colored spherical polymer grains. Further, there is provided a microchannel production apparatus for use in the process.
